Decoding Consumer Behavior: Insights on Contractor Selection and the Power of Comparison
In the world of property and vehicle ownership, trust in contractors is paramount. We've surveyed from all over South Africa to better understand consumer experiences and preferences when dealing with contractors. This article will summarise our key findings and provide insights into the industry trends.
For those who prefer a brief overview, here are the main points from our research:
Our survey of 451 property and vehicle owners aimed to uncover their experiences with contractors and their preferences when seeking services. We asked questions about experiences with contractors, the likelihood of obtaining multiple quotes, and the ease of getting quotes.
A staggering 72.7% of respondents had been ripped off by a contractor at some point, highlighting the importance of trust and transparency in the industry. In response, 80.3% of respondents are likely or very likely to obtain multiple quotes for services to ensure they receive the best service and competitive pricing.
In today's fast-paced and competitive world, homeowners are becoming increasingly conscious of their choices when it comes to household services. Our survey data reveals that a significant portion of respondents prioritise obtaining multiple quotes before making a decision. This trend reflects consumers' desire to make informed decisions and ensure they get the best value for their money.
For many, obtaining multiple quotes has become a standard practice when hiring professionals for household tasks such as plumbing, panel beating, or any other general services. This approach not only helps homeowners compare prices but also allows them to evaluate the quality of service, expertise, and trustworthiness of various contractors. By seeking out multiple options, consumers can make well-rounded decisions that ultimately lead to more satisfactory outcomes for their household projects.
With 76.5% of respondents finding it easy or very easy to get multiple quotes, it's evident that technology and the widespread availability of information have simplified the process for consumers. This has likely contributed to the growing trend of obtaining multiple quotes to mitigate risk and find the best contractor for the job.
The survey revealed the primary motivations behind getting multiple quotes:
These motivations demonstrate the importance of quality service, fair pricing, and a range of options for consumers when choosing a contractor.
In the age of digital connectivity, it comes as no surprise that most respondents search for service providers through the Internet (36.6%), Google (21.9%), and recommendations from friends (19.5%). This highlights the need for contractors to maintain a solid online presence and foster positive word-of-mouth referrals to attract and retain clients.
Our survey shows that trust in contractors is a primary concern for property and vehicle owners, with a significant percentage of respondents having experienced being ripped off. As a result, obtaining multiple quotes has become a popular strategy for consumers to ensure they receive the best service and competitive pricing.
Contractors should focus on building a robust online presence, delivering quality work, and maintaining fair pricing to win over clients in this increasingly competitive market.
